The big event of this month was that
Okono gave birth to a daughter. Meanwhile, Yoshino needed to spend a lot of time on
the preparation on the road improvement. In the Edo period, there were very few
government services, so people did it by themselves and spent much time on
them.
Road
improvement、道普請
They continued the meetings to lay the
pavement stone on the road in front of Choufuku-ji temple probably. Mr. Yoshino
or his father joined the meeting on the 3rd, 4th, 8th,
10th, 24th, 25th, 28th and 29th.
Those were continued next month. They talk about renovation of the walls of
Choufuku-ji temple on the 15th, 16th and 17th.
I think they spent much more time than today. Perhaps the time went very
slowly. By the way, the new chief monk arrived at the temple last April. I guess he wanted to have the temple and its area renovated.Unpaved road in the rural area、茨城県水海道・坂野家付近の道 |
On the 1st, very rare event happened.
I already read the past three years of his diary, but his father and mother had never gone out together; it was a mystery for me. It was written that they went to
Nakadera temple together to join the Shingon training event.
The 2nd was a Mujin party holiday.
Mujin party usually started from the evening, so I don’t know whether it was a
holiday to hold the party or to take rest after the all-night party. The 7th was also the Mujin party holiday, but they polished rice on this day.
On the 8th,
Okono had an easy delivery. They gave birth in their houses. He delighted it definitely,
but he didn’t write in details.

On the
12th, he visited the temple with udon-noodle. Something would had
happened with monks. The relationship between the temple and people was very strong.
We visit the family temple few times a year these days. Udon-noodle was the
good gift for this time of the year, because it was made from fresh flour which
was cropped last month.
On the
16th and 17th, they boiled soy beans to make “miso”
seasoning. On the 16th, they took Mujin party holiday in the afternoon. They also took Shimeri holiday in the afternoon of the 17th. They had enough time before harvesting rice.
On the 18th, he went to Noda which is 12km away from his village. Probably he bought an iron head of a hoe. There was a specialty shop.

On the 23rd, Shibaya and his wife visited Yosino with a baby-birth gift which was sweets or food in the wooden box “o-jyuu”. They started harvesting rice on this day.
On the 26th, they cultivated a field. He went to Nakadera temple with bota-mochi rice cakes and white rice.
On the 27th, they cultivated the field.
On the 28th, they polished rice. He went to Nishihirai in order to discuss the event of Choufuku-ji temple.
On the 29th, they cultivated the field. He discussed the Choufuku-ji event with Nakamura.
