Gallery of Edo Shitamachi Traditional Crafts、江戸下町伝統工芸館

This small gallery is located at Asakusa 浅草 in Tokyo. Asakusa is famous for its temple and entertainment district which is the most popular tourist area in Tokyo. “Shitamachi” means congested city area where ordinary people live and work. Handmade chic crafts which are made by Edo (old name of Tokyo) craftsmen are exhibited and also sold here. The admission fee is free.

To own beautiful and elaborate crafts and to keep them clean is fun for people.

江戸職人の工芸品を展示し、販売もする。浅草のひさご通り商店街の中にある。入場無料。出来の良い品を持つ。きれいに保つ。これは喜び。

The wooden craft (Sashimono) below is made by Mr. Nakanishi (https://craft.city.taito.lg.jp/en/craftsmaker/2263/). I want to own these crafts especially the cube box.

中西正夫氏の江戸指物。手にしたい木工品である。小箱が気に入りました。

Next one is a Japanese style fishing rod made by Mr. Yoshihiro Yoshida. It consists of different kinds of bamboo rods and it can be assembled into a longer pole. It’s cool to go fishing small carps (crucian carp) with this compact tool.

吉田嘉弘氏の江戸和竿。異なる種類の竹を接ぎ合わせて竿にする。こんなの持って近所に釣りに行くなど、粋なものだ。

Excellent board is shown below. It was an auction (the reservation price was about $1300 and highest possible price was about $1800).

ワゴンと書かれているが、上品で良い。オークションで14万円スタート、上限19万円になっていた。

The doll is made by Mr. Kikuchi. Creeping shape is so cute.

市松人形が有名だが、這っている人形がなんとも可愛い。菊地氏作。

The photo below is a woodblock print about pilgrimage to Mt.Oyama. Young men seem to be so brave with tattoo and they look like Kabuki performance actors. These handsome guys have a sword to offer to the God of Mt. Oyama.

Very good : ★★★ (this is a long and interesting page) Various entertainments at Edo or old Tokyo in the Edo period are written in this book. I found a lot of fun here. I focus on the fun of common people, so I put aside the fun of Daimyo loads , samurais and rich merchants in this book. In terms of people’s fun, Edo was the paradise definitely. There were a lot of funs in day time and night time. Edo attracted people especially from the country side. 吉原はスゴイ‐江戸文化を育んだ魅惑の遊郭（堀口茉純、 2018 ）人の楽しみの発見度： Excellent ★★★ This book is written about an authorized red-light district Yoshiwara which was in Edo (old name of Tokyo). There are many pictures in this book and you can understand all about Yoshiwara by this small book. The author is a pretty actress who is devoted to Japanese history especially Edo city (https://hoollii.com/). She tries to depict the contribution of Yoshiwara to foster Edo culture. Hakusan-Heisenji Shrine and History Hall Mahoroba、平泉寺白山神社と歴史探遊館「まほろば」

Heisenji (Fukui prefecture, central Japan) was established in 717 as a gateway to the worshipped mountain “Hakusan” . There were six thousands of priest dwellings in its primetime in the medieval era; it was also a warring group which had priest soldiers. However, it is a calm and sacred place now. About “Mahoroba”, I submitted an application for photography and uploaded photos. 平泉寺（福井県勝山市）は、 717 年に信仰の山・白山への登山口として開かれました。戦国時代には六千の坊院が建ちましたが、 1868 年の神仏分離令を受け、白山神社と改めました。御師が信者を募るのではなく、荘園や寺領からの初穂米などで経営されてきたようです。僧兵を擁した戦闘的な集団でもありましたが、今は静かで、神聖な空気が漂います。なお、「まほろば」は許可を申請し、写真を撮影し掲載しました。 Hakusan-Heisenji Shrine 、平泉寺白山神社 I went up the stairs to the shrine . I focus on the Edo period here.
