This museum is located in the central Tokyo. The Fukagawa town in the Edo period is rebuilt here, which is interesting. Popular performances in the
Edo period such as Nagauta songs, Sinnai-nagashi street songs, Koudan
storytelling and Rakugo funny storytelling are held often in this museum. There are a lot of entertainments in the Edo period (Life in the Edo). You can indulge yourself in the Edo feels. (Edo is the old name of Tokyo.)

The signboard
at the gate called "Kido" is very interesting because curious professionals who lived in the
ordinary apartment houses are written. One of them is the Oomine-san sendachi
guide who guided customers to Mt.Oomine which is the training mountain of
Yamabushi Buddist in Nara where is about 700km away from Edo. The volunteer guide of this museum
said that the names on the signboard were true because those were written in the historical
documents. The names of the teacher of Confucianism and shaman guitar are also
written.

The Edo Kouta songs were performed when I visited. Several singers
and shamisen guitar performers were in the shamisen teacher’s apartment. The
lyric of the Kouta song “Gichon-chon” was delivered so visitors sang with the
performer.

The melody was slow and cozy which was different from the modern
songs. Visitors sang “Gichon-chon, gichon-chon”, so it seemed that we joined
the drinking party in which the songs were played. The words of the song were
peaceful.
“We look down the valley from the mountain, where the squashes
and eggplants are in the full bloom, Ha, gichon-chon ---
I decided that you are my partner, however I did love affair impulsively. Ha, gichon-chon, gichon-chon ---"
Gathering, drinking and singing are the big fun, therefore a lot of
people had shamisen guitars in the Edo period.
