Sickness of Teiju (female monk) and treatment、
Teiju who stationed in the village got sick last month. Her
condition was not good, so villagers supported her.
On the 8th, a pharmacist came from
Yobaduka which is around 10km away from the village. He prepared medicine.
Yoshino treated him with a meal and a drink.
Afterward, the villagers went to Yobaduka to buy medicine
every two days. However, Teiju’s condition didn’t get better. On the 13th,
the pharmacist came again.
Finally, villagers sent a letter to her younger brother who lived in Edo (old name of Tokyo) which was around 20km away. Her brother came on the next day (23rd of October). His wife came on the 24th, and their daughter came on the 28th. Eventually, Teiju went to Edo together with her extended family. It was a difficult travel.
Unfortunately, Teiju died. It was written that villagers built a stupa (grave tablet) for her in the next April.
On the 29th, Kourin, who was a female monk in Naka-kanasugi,
came and asked to accept another female monk. Three days later, she came to the
village and villagers had a welcome party on the 15th.

On the 29th, he wrote that he got little Katsuo
(bonito fish) sashimi (raw fish) from Kan-uemon. It got colder, so raw
fishes were distributed.

November、11月
Villagers finished harvesting rice, threshing and packing.
Mujin (lottery) gatherings were held in various venues in evening.
On the 28th, Yoshino went to Edo with his pal.
It was one week trip. He went there on the 11th, on the 23rd
of that month and on the 21st of the next month. He had enough time
to visit Edo which had a lot of entertainments and attractions. It’s good to
enjoy after an agricultural season.

On the 23rd, her mother was invited to “Yama(mountain)
iri(returning) kami(god) sake(alcohol)”. I don't know the event, but it is said
generally that a rice field god returned to a mountain in November.

Wedding ceremonies were held during an agricultural off-season. A bride came to Gon-uemon family on
the 26th of the last month.
On the 11th, Han-zaemon family welcomed a bride from
Jurou-uemon in Ki village. Han-zaemon was a matchmaker between Jurou-uemon’s
daughter and Yoshino’s helper. Yoshino and his wife were invited to the
ceremony. Sata and Oshin went to support the party. On the 13th.
Han-zaemon invited them and appreciated their help.
On the 12th, Oura who was a married daughter gave
birth. She gave birth to a daughter last year, too. On the 19th, his
neighbor Otoki gave birth to a son. Good news.
On the 27th, they made mochi cake for New
Year’s.
On the 30th, villagers came to his house for a
year-end greeting.
