This
museum opened in 2018. The model of the lunch of the eighth shogun attracted
me.
However, many old photos mainly around one hundred years ago attracted me more. Because the lively faces of the people tell me how happy they were.
幸手の資料を分かりやすく纏めていて素晴らしい資料館だ。2018年オープン。目を引いたのは、八代将軍吉宗が幸手宿でとった昼食の再現。
でも、旧校舎を使った民具展示室にある写真が、生き生きとした人々のくらしを見せてくれた。写真は、う~ん良かった。昔の楽しみが、移っている人々の表情から伝わってくる。唸ってしまいます。
There are straw dragon for a ritual in
the entrance hall. People pray for rich harvest and healthy lives.
エントランス展示には神扇(かみおうぎ)春季神楽際の大蛇づくりの展示。五穀豊穣と無病息災を祈る。
A weaving machine is set in the entrance
hall. A weaving seminar is held regularly.

Satte is famous for its sakura cherry
blossom on the Gongendou bank. Those were planted in the early 20th
century. (visited in April, 2022)
幸手といえば春の権現堂堤。桜が植えられたのは大正年間からとのこと。

Leaf shaped clay pendant in the Jomon
period (more than three thousand years ago); it is pretty.

中世。将門の展示は欠かせない。
Satte was a post town on the Nikko douchu
highway in the Edo period (1603~1868).
This area shows us it.
日光道中、幸手宿の展示。右端は、豪商の長島屋(呉服屋)の看板。
The shogun took a rest at Satte when he
visited Nikko which his ancestors’ tombs are in.
The eighth shogun Y.Tokugawa had a lunch
here. The models of shogun's dishes are exhibited. Those are mainly cooked vegetables.
幸手宿は日光参拝の将軍の昼休み所であった。1728年に聖福寺で休息を取った吉宗の弁当の想像模型が展示されている。メニューは、煮しめや塩煮の山芋、酒ねりひしお、砂糖胡椒付のご飯、汁など。
This town is in a marsh area. 水が多い地域だ。

Photos of good old Satte、懐かしい昭和の幸手写真展(1950-1954)
These photos are printed on the public relations
magazines of Satte. There weren’t enough goods back then, but people enjoyed
vivid days.
幸手町広報誌からの昭和の写真。物は無くても、いきいきと楽しんでいる。
In 1950, thirty thousand people surged to
the festival of Satte Yasaka Shrine. It was just five years after the WWⅡ which broke out and devastated Japan. I felt that people’s strong energy to revive.
昭和25年、「3万人の人波(幸手八坂神社の祭礼)」。終戦直後に近い時期だが、生きる熱気が伝わる。
In 1951, people started replanting sakura
cherry blossom trees on the bank of Gongendou bank. It was a festival, so people
danced and sang.
昭和26年。桜堤開きに集まり踊る人、唄う人、見る人。復活させましょ若桜。
Tens of thousands of people gathered. 数万人が集まった。
Radio gymnastic in which we Japanese exercise to the music from radio. Everyone is vivid. I did it every morning when
I worked at a private company.
昭和26年、ラジオ体操。電気屋のラジオで体操していたようだ。みんな元気だし、子どもの数が多い。
In July, 1952, the earliest summer
festival “Anbasama” hosted by Oosugi Shrine was held. There were no gyms back
then, but young men were vital and slim.
昭和27年7月。夏祭りのトップを切る大杉社の祭礼「あんばさま」。若者の心意気を感じる。ジムなどは無かったが、みんな体が引き締まっている。
Town sports day in November, 1952; men
jumped, bit a bread and run while eating them in this traditional event. The sports
day isn’t held now.
昭和27年11月号、町民運動会のパン食い競争。今は無くなった。
The opening day of a carp fishing in
October, 1963. It says that the number of fishing rods were probably more than
that of carps.
昭和28年10月号、志手川の鯉釣り解禁。志手橋から西側を望む。太公望たちの良い写真だ。竿と魚とどちらが多いのかと思ったことがあった、と書いてあった。

昭和30年頃の幸手駅。薪の保管場所でかくれんぼ。道具が無くても遊んでいた。
Water-melon hitting; the boy on the right has
blinders on. Children on the left gives him directions where the watermelon is, then he
hits it with a wooden bar. They eat it later on. It is a summer entertainment “Suika(watermelon)
Wari(Breaking)”. They are vivid, it is also around 1955 in front of a farmer’s
house.

楽しいお風呂、とのタイトル。まさにその通り。昭和30年頃。
Folklore、民俗コーナー
People in Mita also make a big straw
snake, but in spring. They give sake (alcohol) to the snake at the shrine, then
set it at the village border. They play for driving epidemic away. The event is
called “Tsuji-kiri” which is spread in central and eastern Japan.
惣新田三田地区の春の行事。縄で大蛇を作り、神社で御神酒を飲ませた後、村境に置いて疫病の侵入防止を願う辻切りの行事。
People in Kamito made a long straw snake, then
walk around the town together in the Bon season (summer). They
also pray for driving epidemic away.
上戸(かみと)では、疫病除けを願い、盆に大蛇を作って引き回す行事がある
Members of a child-party in Nitta visit
houses and perform a lion dance in summer in which people pray for expelling an
epidemic, too.
権現堂新田地区では、子供会が獅子などを持って、家々を角付けして回り、疫病退散を願う夏の行事がある。
Eventually, children go to the community center
in which villagers gather, and they purified adults. It is a joyful rite which is
performed by children.
子どもたちは、集会所に集まった人たちにも、お祓いをする。パワーを持つ子供が主役の楽しい会だ。
The event above is called “Hyakuman-ben
(one million times) Nenbutsu (chanting) which is held on the 23rd of
April. People rotate a long beadroll and chant. I understand this is an event
for women, but a man sits inside the circle and keep rhythm while hitting the
gong.
上吉羽(かみよしば)地区の百万遍念仏。長い数珠を廻しながら「ナイダー、ナイダー」(南無阿弥陀仏)と念仏を唱える百万遍念仏。女性だけで行うものとおもっていたが 、ここでは男性が中央に座って、鉦を叩いて拍子をとる。4月23日に集会場で実施されるという。
People count the number of chanting by
these wooden cards. Some people put it on their aching spots after chanting. They
pray for health, happiness and prosperity of the village.
念仏の回数を数える木札。念仏が終わった後は、数珠を痛い所に当てる人もいる。健康や幸せ、村の繁栄を祈願する行事である。と書いてあった。
Until around 1990, people regularly
visited Suwa Shrine in Nagareyama. The group was called Satte Suwa Kou and the head was a
stationmaster of Satte. I guess they enjoyed a short river trip by boat before
the train system developed.
約30km南東の駒木諏訪神社(流山市)に参る幸手諏訪講(講)が平成の初めまであって、幸手駅長が講元をしていたという。流山までのルートは、平坦な農地の中を歩く道だが、鉄道がない頃は川の船旅を楽しんでいたのかも知れない。
Everyday goods、生活用品の展示室
The tray on the left is for a baby. We celebrate
the first bite of a baby one hundred days later of the birth. The tray on the
right is for adults at a party. Gathering is fun.
左は、赤ちゃんの生後百日のお祝いのお食い初めの膳。右は慶事仏事用の客膳椀。人が集まるのは楽しい。

This old coat on which leaves of asa-hemp
are printed is for a baby, because people wish a healthy life like asa-hemp for
the baby. Grandparents on the mother-side send it together with baby clothes.
これは「一つ身綿入れ」という生まれた赤ちゃんに着せた着物。麻のように真っ直ぐに健康に育つように、麻の葉の文様が付けられている。母の生家から産着とともに届けられたという。

Agricultural equipment、農機具のコーナー
Mr. Ueda who was a silk-culture teacher
from Nagano - the center of a silk industry, trained up people in this
area. The silk-culture flourished here.
信州上田から来た養蚕教師・上田平和の指導の下、養蚕も盛んであったそうだ。
Peaceful rice field, but manual planting is really
hard job.
心和む水田風景。手作業の田植えは大変だけど。
Craftsmen’s equipment、職人の道具
They made roof tiles, wooden buckets, tools
for making sweets and so on. Other craftsmen dyed fabrics to indigo,
constructed roofs etc.
瓦屋、籠屋、屋根葺屋、藍染屋、お菓子の押し型職人もいた。

Gongendou bank is the tourist spot of sakura
cherry blossoms. When I visited, Manjushage red flower festival was held. Cosplayers
took their photos.
桜の名所・権現堂堤は、秋の曼珠沙華まつりが開かれていました。コスプレで撮影する人たちもちらほら。
