Yoshino’s daily life 53(Oct. to Dec. in 1864、文久4年10~12月)

  October 、 10 月   In March, the samurai group “Tengu-tou” raised an army in Tsukuba which is just 50km north of Yoshino’s village. Around a thousand of soldiers joined. The shogunate dispatched daimyo s’ troops in order to subdue the rebel. They returned, and it increased the requests of Sukegou * works . Yoshino dispatched villagers seven times in that month. Btw, the rebel was not defeated; they forwarded to Kyoto. * Sukegou : It was the system for keeping the traffic and logistics of kaidou (highway). In the case of shortage of carriers and horses of the post town, neighboring villages (Sukegou) dispatched workers and horses. “Suke” means helping or supporting, “gou” means villages. Yoshino’s daily life 52(Jan. to Sep. in 1864、文久4年1~9月)

  In March, the samurai group "Teng-tou" raised an army in Tsukuba which is just 50km north of Yoshino’s village . The number of soldiers increased to 1,000. The shogunate ordered daimyos to subdue the rebel. The shogunate also dispatched the army to Choushu-han which was in Yamaguchi prefecture, western Japan. The internal war started .   Villagers were required to carry luggage ( Sukegou *) and to bear the war expenditures . I focus on Sukegou of that year because they were required 43 times; it was only 8 times two years ago. Yoshino’s daily life 51(Jul. to Dec. in 1863、文久3年7~12月)

  July 、 7 月   Yoshino’s father was sick in bed, and acquaintances visited one after another. Eiji (Yoshino’s son) returned on the 22 nd . Unfortunately, his father passed away in the afternoon of the 27 th . The funeral was recorded. On the 28 th , relatives came continuously and the funeral was held on the 29 th . Ten monks and eighteen servants came and the memorial service began just after the noon. His coffin was carried out around 2PM. He was an ex-village head, so four hundred people came.   On the 30 th , the memorial service of the third day after death was held; all villagers participated in. Former village head’s residence in a neighboring city 、旧吉田家住宅歴史公園(千葉県柏市)  お盆の後、父へのお見舞いが続きました。英次さんも 22 日に戻ってきました。   27 日午後、 父が病死 しました。葬式の様子が書かれています。 28 日には親戚が続々と来て、 29 日の九つ(正午)過ぎに、長福寺を始めお寺から僧が 10 人、他に駕籠かきら 18 人が来て法要、八つ(午後 2 時)頃に出棺でした。 400 人ほどが悔やみに来た ということです。名主の親ともなるとスゴイ数ですね。   30 日に村人総出で三日斎。   August 、 8 月 On the 1 st , Eiji went to the temple wit...
