Ichikawa city is east of Tokyo and faces Tokyo Bay. This museum shows the life at the coast (salt and sea weed producing) and the life of the plateau (rice and pear farming), which are apparent from exhibits. It also shows us the land and water way to Tokyo and various kind of footgear, those are interesting. There is another city museum which shows exhibits before the 12th century next to this museum.
In the pursuit of knowing the fun of old days, the annual events during the rice farming and also local toys showed me the answer.

The life at the coast
Old
salt manufacturing method, which was done until early 20th century,
in Gyotoku district is exhibited. People stocked the sea water on the beach
and dried it. Many tools and models are displayed.
Seaweed cultivation which continues until today. People planted seeds on the wooden
bars in the sea at first.
The land and water way 江戸に通じる水路と陸路
Ichikawa is a key point to go to Tokyo, the
temple city Narita and so on.
The picture below is the well-known udon
noodle restaurant called “Sasaya”. It is said that the samurai hero "Yoritomo",
who died in 1199, took rest here and ate udon. The building is conserved.
The wrapping paper of udon and the printing block. Farmers made udon by themselves using harvested wheat, so Sasaya probably needed to serve delicious one in order to continue its business.
Farming 農業
Pears are specialties of Ichikawa, I love the crunchy texture of Japanese
pears.
Rice farming and annual events

People go through a big straw ring to purify themselves in June.

The rite for pest control is called
“Mushi-okuri”. Mushi means insects and okuri means send-off.

Footgear 履き物
Old footgear attract me、昔の履き物が面白い |
Straw footgear for worker and cow、
Footgear for seaweed cultivation at shoals
