Residence of Arakawa family in Takayama、荒川家住宅（高山市）

Arakawa family was a hereditary village head in Takayama, central Japan. They were also a leader of six village heads in the area. The main building build in 1796 is designated as a national important cultural asset. It was restored to its old state (more than a hundred years before). They were farmers, but were high-ranking ones. The building is huge.

荒川家は、飛騨と信濃の境・平湯峠から高山に下る谷筋の六か村をまとめた業帯名主を務めていました。1796年に建てられた母屋は、国の重要文化財に指定され、保存修理工事が行われ、大正期以前の形に復原されました。庶民とはほど遠い身分、そして住宅ですが、私が住んでいる松本から高山に行くときに前を通るので、気になっていて、ついに訪問。巨大な二階建て建物です。

The photo above is a layout (21 meters width and 15 meters long). There is a stable in it.

幅21ｍ、奥行き15ｍの広い家です。馬屋（マヤ）もあります。

It’s a view from the entrance hall. There are guest rooms behind the common space (wooden floor) which has a fireplace.

上の写真は、玄関を入って、おえ（御上）越しに座敷（でえ）を見たものです。

The guest room above is the highest grade one (shoin-zukuri style). Five lacquered trays are set on the tatami mats, and an animal skin rug is in behind.

オクデエは一番格式が高い部屋で書院造りです。獣の皮の敷物と五人分のお膳が置かれていました。さすがですね。

The photo above is a view of the living room and the entrance hall in behind; old daily goods are displayed.

ダイドコから玄関を見たところです。こちらは家族のスペースですね。民具が展示されています。

The kitchen is next to the living room. There is a cooking stove on the wooden floor.

ダイドコの奥側はミズヤです。調理場、洗い場ですが、竈があるのに板の間ですね。

Lunch boxes and so on are displayed; those were donated by Arakawa family and other villagers.

弁当箱や重箱などが展示されています。展示品は荒川家を含む各所から寄付されたものです。

Grains (millet, buckwheat/soba) and nuts (ginkgo, walnut) are displayed in the middle. It was difficult to have rice field in a mountainous area; I guess those were staple foods for them.

左から粟（あわ）、ぎんなん、蕎麦の実、くるみが展示されています。水田を作りにくい谷あいなのでこれらは重要な食べ物だったのでしょう。

Let's go upstairs.　さて、二階へ進みます。

The second floor was for silkworm culture. Everyday goods in old days are exhibited now. We can see the wooden roof (upper left).

二階では蚕を飼っていたそうですが、今は民具が並べられています。板葺きの屋根裏（左上）が見えています。

The wooden boxes would be used to carry tools for repairing millet mill machine.

搗屋箱という背負う？箱が三つありました。米や麦を搗く仕事をした人が使った道具箱でしょうか。搗精機の修理屋さんの道具箱かもしれません。

There is a historical and folklore museum in the same site. Photos of stone Buddhist statues, documents about “Ultraman” (upper left) and so on are exhibited.

敷地内の歴史民俗資料館では、石仏の写真やウルトラマンの資料（左上）など様々な品が展示されていました。

Very good : ★★★ (this is a long and interesting page) Various entertainments at Edo or old Tokyo in the Edo period are written in this book. I found a lot of fun here. I focus on the fun of common people, so I put aside the fun of Daimyo loads , samurais and rich merchants in this book. In terms of people’s fun, Edo was the paradise definitely. There were a lot of funs in day time and night time. Edo attracted people especially from the country side. 吉原はスゴイ‐江戸文化を育んだ魅惑の遊郭（堀口茉純、 2018 ）人の楽しみの発見度： Excellent ★★★ This book is written about an authorized red-light district Yoshiwara which was in Edo (old name of Tokyo). There are many pictures in this book and you can understand all about Yoshiwara by this small book. The author is a pretty actress who is devoted to Japanese history especially Edo city (https://hoollii.com/). She tries to depict the contribution of Yoshiwara to foster Edo culture. 江戸・明治の性愛の楽しみ

Hakusan-Heisenji Shrine and History Hall Mahoroba、平泉寺白山神社と歴史探遊館「まほろば」

Heisenji (Fukui prefecture, central Japan) was established in 717 as a gateway to the worshipped mountain “Hakusan” . There were six thousands of priest dwellings in its primetime in the medieval era; it was also a warring group which had priest soldiers. However, it is a calm and sacred place now. About “Mahoroba”, I submitted an application for photography and uploaded photos. 平泉寺（福井県勝山市）は、 717 年に信仰の山・白山への登山口として開かれました。戦国時代には六千の坊院が建ちましたが、 1868 年の神仏分離令を受け、白山神社と改めました。御師が信者を募るのではなく、荘園や寺領からの初穂米などで経営されてきたようです。僧兵を擁した戦闘的な集団でもありましたが、今は静かで、神聖な空気が漂います。なお、「まほろば」は許可を申請し、写真を撮影し掲載しました。 Hakusan-Heisenji Shrine 、平泉寺白山神社 I went up the stairs to the shrine .
