Culture of Rokugosan 、六郷山の文化 In the ancient, a  mountain worship (Buddhism)  initiated in Kunisaki Peninsula and many temples were built. It is Rokugosan. 国東半島では、古代に 六郷山（ろくごうさん）という山岳仏教が始まり 、以来多くの寺院が建てられました。 There are  many stone works in Kunisaki ; many of them were built in the medieval era when Buddhism spread among people; we always have something to pray. 国東半島には国東塔をはじめ、多くの石造物 があります。仏教が民衆に広がった中世には多く作られました。常に人々の願いがあります。国東塔（複製）は写真左です。 A  mountain training  “Mine-iri” began in order to reconstruct the Rokugomanzan (mountain worship) in the Edo period (1603 ～ 1868). It was cut off one time, but was restarted in 1959. 近世には、低迷した六郷山復興のために 「峯入り」（山岳修行） が始まりました。幕末に途絶えたのですが、 1959 年に再興されました。様々な形で祈り続けています。大分には高山はないのですが、岩山が多いようです。 What do you think what those masks are used for? This historical museum is unique, because it focuses on faith . It’s good. We can understand what and how people have worshipped, and how they have enjoyed the religious events. 古墳がある宇佐風土記の丘にある歴史博物館ですが、 信仰に重点が置かれていて 、戦国大名や偉人（福沢諭吉ら）が紹介されていないのがとてもユニークでした。いいと思います。人々が信仰心を持ち、かつ、宗教行事を楽しんできたことがよく分かりました。 There is a  giant stone Buddhist image  at the entrance hall. It’s a replica of Dainichi Buddha (Mahavairocana) image at the stone cliff in Kunisaki Peninsula. It was made 800 years ago. ホールにはドーンと石仏があります。 鎌倉初期に作られた天台密教の主尊である大日如来の磨崖仏 （複製）です。国東半島の熊野修験発祥の地に修験道の本地仏不動明王と並んで刻まれています。 The picture above shows a layout of the exhibition room . Beppu onsen (hot-spring) is one of the most popular resorts in Japan. It gushes out abundant and various kinds hot-water . Moreover, there are many foods from the sea and the mountains. Btw, bath salt is made there . I’d like to introduce the traditional manufacturing facility, too. In addition to the onsen, there are many tourist spots near Beppu; I’m eager to stay there several weeks. 「おんせん県おおいた」を代表する別府温泉 と、そこで行われている 湯の花（明礬）作り を紹介します。湯の量、種類ともに豊富で、かつ、海の幸・山の幸、更には宇佐神宮や国東半島などの観光地にも恵まれています。私は長期滞在（湯治）検討中です。   The photo above is a view from the inn I stayed.  The rising steam shows how rich the gushing water is . I felt the temperature and the humidity were higher. A book which was published more than a thousand years ago says, we couldn’t go there because of gushing hot-water and hot-mud.
