Daisen Museum of Nature and History、大山自然歴史館

Mt. Daisen (1709 m)  is in Tottori Prefecture, which shape from the north side is gentle. However, it’s south side is rocky; the photos are at the bottom of this article. スキーもできる 鳥取県の名峰・大山( 1709 m) 。北側から見た大山はやさしい山です(岩肌の南側の写真は記事の最後にあります)。 The large museum is on the mountainside and is at beside the approach to Daisen-ji (temple). 大山自然歴史館は、大山の中腹、大山寺への参道にある鳥取県立の巨大施設です。 The panel near the entrance hall is named “Thanks to Daisen-san” . Because Mt. Daisen’s rich nature gives people agricultural and livestock products, and seafoods. Moreover, Jizo Bodhisattva is said to have appeared at the top of the mountain. まず、 「大山さんのおかげ」 という大型パネルがあります。山頂に現れたという地蔵菩薩への信仰、そして自然、農畜産物、海産物まで大山さんのおかげということです。 Various creatures in Mt. Matsue Horan enya Memorial Hall、松江ホーランエンヤ伝承館

“Horan enya” is a Shinto ritual  which is held every ten years. Matsue people are passionate about it.  Decorated boats parade . 船神事・ホーランエンヤ は、松江の人たちが情熱を捧げる 10 年に一度の祭り(松江城にある城山稲荷神社の式年神幸祭)です。 The museum is next to Matsue History Museum. There are  banner-flags  in front of the museum; names of  five villages, which ships join the ritual , are dyed on them. 伝承館は、松江歴史館のすぐ隣り。 飾られた船を出す五大地 (集落)ののぼりが上がっています。 Horan enya is the ritual to pray for stability and fertility  in the Izumo region.  They bring the Divine Spirit  of Matsue Jozan Inari Shrine to Adakaya Shrine in Higashi Izumo by boat, which is around 10 kms away. It is 9 days ritual including returning to Matsue. Matsue History Museum、松江歴史館

The museum is in front of Matsue Castle which is one of five castles designated as national treasure. I reckoned it showed us the history of “ samurai ”. Luckily enough, I misunderstood. It shows us people’s lifestyle especially in the Edo period (1603 ~ 1868) in which the castle played the role of the political center of the province. The exhibits suit to the theme this blog. 国宝松江城の前 にあるので、武家の歴史だけかと思いきや全く違いました。 人々(特に、松江に城ができた江戸時代)の暮しや楽しみがよく分かる博物館 でした。 The castle is in the city center. The city was developed around the castle. 松江城は町中にある平城です。 The museum (above) is at the opposite side of the castle across the moat. It was the site of a residence of a  karou  (chief retainer). 国宝松江城と堀を挟んだ家老屋敷跡に歴史館があります。 At the left side of the gate building,  festival equipment  is exhibited.
