Kaikaro teahouse 、

There are three teahouse districts in Kanazawa even now. Kaikaro is located in Higashi(east) teahouse district which is the largest and the highest-status one. Teahouse is an entertainment establishment where people invite Geisha girls and have a party . Kaikaro is the largest teahouse here which was built in 1820 . It is open to the public during day time , and sometimes there are parties in the evening.  Here is an old Japanese entertainment district, so it is also a popular tourist attraction. There were many tourists when I visited, even though it was rainy early evening. Kaikaro is a three-story wooden building.

American military did not bomb Kanazawa during the WWⅡ, so many old houses remain near the castle (old cit, around five kilo-meter square). When I visited (late August), the castle and Kenrokuen garden were lit up. Kenrokuen, which was a daimyo garden next to the castle, was also lit up. Most Japanese know the stone lantern on the right which is called “Kotoji-lantern”. It was a beautiful sight, plus it was calm. Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of History was a former arsenal. We can take photo but we cannot upload them on the website or printings, so photos without sources are from website of this museum. Daimyo (Maeda clan) and Kaga-han、前田家と加賀藩  Most a...

Yoshino’s daily life 25, December in 1851(嘉永4年12月)

It was an agricultural off-season, so they had time. They prepared for the New Year’s Day. Those were peaceful days, but only one year and half was left before the US fleet came to Japan, which was a trigger to beat the shogunate which ruled Japan 250 years until then. On the 2 nd , Mr. Haige came and stayed at Yoshino’s house, then left for Edo next day. They stayed at acquaintances’ houses easily ; it is so different from current situation. When I was an elementary school pupil, which was in the 1970s, people used to recommend customers to stay. The habit has been changed.   On the 3 rd , an officer of Zoujyouji temple, which was a family temple of the shogun, visited. Monks and priests came frequently because of the agricultural off-season.   -Visitor came from Ise Shrine on the 9 th .  -Other visitor oshi ...
