The Museum of the Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shouzokan and Imperial Palace、宮内庁三の丸尚蔵館と皇居(Revised 2、改訂2)
This museum is located inside the imperial palace and the imperial collections are exhibited, but there is no permanent exhibition. Only special exhibition is held in the museum and the exhibition room is small (a bit larger than the classroom). The good thing is that admission fees of the museum and the palace are free.
“Auspicious Events of the Meiji
Period: The History of the Imperial Household in the Modern Age” was a title of
the exhibition when I visited. Drawings and outfits of the royal family for the
ceremonies were exhibited. The theme and exhibits were changed by season, so
just check the museum website below.

Daijokyu (the 5th of December in 2019)、大嘗宮一般公開
New Emperor took the throne in May, and he performed the most important ceremony “Daijosai” accompanying the enthronement of the Emperor from the evening of 14 November to the predawn of 15 November. It continues for more than 1,300 years. The Daijokyu, which is built for the Daijosai temporarily, is opened to the public this month. The Daijokyu is broken down after this event.
春秋の乾通り一般公開とともに、11月15日に新天皇の大嘗祭が行われた大嘗宮の一般参観が11/21から12/8まで行われている。
Many people rush to the palace in spite of week day. Ordinary people love the Royal Family.

There is a security gate, of course.

We could see the backside of the Daijokyu on the top of the slope, however we needed more than one hour to reach there.

Special viewing of Takamikura (The
Imperial Throne) and Michoudai(August Seat of the Empress)、高御座と御帳台の特別公開
New Emperor proclaimed his accession to
the throne to Japan and overseas in last October. Charles (Prince of Wales) attended
at the ceremony called “Sokuirei-Seiden-no-gi”, too. He ascended the Imperial
Throne (Takamikura) and delivered the address. The Empress ascended the August Seat
(Michodai) at the same time. They wore traditional costume, especially the emperor
wore Kourozen-no-gohou 黄櫨染御袍 which only the emperor can
wear since Heian-era (794-1185). We could see the seats and ceremonial items at
Tokyo National Museum. Admission fee was free. The special viewing is held in
Kyoto Imperial Pales from the 1st of March to the 22nd in 2020.
