Fun of Good Old Japanese - 江戸・明治に学ぶ　楽しむ生き方

The museum has five historical buildings;  “Inn for female workers” brought me there. Young women (mainly from 16 to 21 years old) got over the difficult pass (Nomugi Pass, 1672m) to work. They stayed at the inn which was at the foot of the pass. Sorry to say, I wrote a lot in this article than usual. ５棟の歴史的建造物を保存した屋外施設です。お目当ては、工女宿。 飛騨の女性たちが野麦峠を越えて、諏訪などにある繊維工場と往復するときに泊まった宝来屋という宿 です。野麦峠の松本市側、奈川地区川浦にありました。いつもよりも文章が長い記事になってしまいました。   The inn “Hourai-ya” was  built in the mid-19 th  century , and was moved to the museum site in 1938. It was at a cold mountainous area, so wooden roof and stone weights were used. Because, roof tiles were frozen and broken. 宝来屋は 江戸時代後期に建てられました 。川浦は寒冷地で瓦が凍結などで割れるため石置きで板葺きの屋根になっています。 The entrance is on the right.  右側が玄関です。 Behind the entrance door, there is an earthen floor.  The tubs  on the wooden floor at left  were used to make pickled vegetables  for guests. The museum was established by Maruyama Taro (1909-1985), who devoted himself to crafts. He was a collector and a craftsman. His collections including his crafts and the building were donated to Matsumoto city in Nagano prefecture of central Japan; those are opened to the public. 柳宗悦の民芸運動に共鳴した、松本の老舗問屋「ちきりや」に生まれた丸山太郎氏（明治 42 ～昭和 60 ）が創館し、後に松本市に寄付した資料館です。「美しいものは美しい」という蒐集家であり工芸作家であった丸山氏が集めた、 世界中の職人による手仕事 が展示されています。 The museum is surrounded by many houses, however, 今は、建物の周りに住宅街が迫ってきましたが、 Inside the gate , we can see the other space. It’s calm and classy. 長屋門をくぐると 落ち着いた異空間が広がります。 The founder’s photo and message are displayed at the entrance of the exhibition room. “ Beauty in handmade daily commodities made by unknown craft men ” captures not only him but also many Japanese people. 展示室に入ると、丸山氏の写真と言葉が掲げられています。「 その物の持つ美しさを直感で見て下さい。これはほとんど無名の職人達の手仕事で日常品です 」と書かれています。その先からは展示品です。 Couple dousojin (deities) are depicted on the hanging scroll . The exhibits are about the resorts and visitors. 松本盆地（信州では松本平と呼びます）の山に近い場所には、温泉がたくさん あります。温泉とそこに集う人々が紹介されています。 The bathroom of Asama hot spring resort is depicted on the old guidebook “Landmarks on Zenkoji Temple Road”.  Western people are astonished at mixed bathing, however, it was our traditional way of bathing  (mixed bathing is rare now). 善光寺道名所図会に紹介された浅間温泉。 西洋人が驚く混浴は、我々の文化 です。 Lord of Matsumoto had two villas at Asama and Utsukushigahara hot spring resorts . Those are at the foot of eastern mountains of Matsumoto. The  amount of gashing spring of Utsukushigawara is not so rich, therefore, effluent hot-water from the lord’s bathtubs flew into locals’ one .
