Fun of Good Old Japanese - 江戸・明治に学ぶ　楽しむ生き方

Kakegawa in Shizuoka Prefecture was a post town on Toukaidou highway which linked Edo (old name of Tokyo) and Kyoto. Kakegawa castle is very rare, because it has a palace in which a  daimyo lord lived and conducted the affairs of his state. The palace was built int the late Edo period (1603 ～ 1868). After visiting Kakegawa castle, I went west on the highway. 掛川は東海道の宿場町 であり、江戸時代からの 御殿が残る数少ない城 です。御殿は江戸末期に火災にあい、再建された建物です。掛川を訪ね、東海道を西へと向かいました。人々が歩いた道です。   I entered the castle from the  main gate  (Ohte-mon). 大手門 からお城へ入ります。 The photo above is an  entrance of the palace . A palace is not a theme of this blog (Fun of Good Old Japanese). However,  there are only four palaces of daimyo lords  which were built in the Edo period and were actually used as a palace. Shizuoka Prefecture is the largest producer of tea in Japan . The museum is in the tea plantation. The museum would tell us all about tea. Tea time is definitely a fun time. 日本で一番多くの茶を作っている 静岡県の茶所に博物館 があります。茶のすべてが分かりそうな博物館です。お茶をいただく時間は、間違いなく楽しみですね。 The huge museum has a  tea-ceremony room  which was a filming location. 巨大な博物館には、ロケにも使われた 茶室 があります。 The tearoom is at the perfect location wherein we can see Mt. Fuji. 大井川越しに富士山を望める良い場所に茶室を作っています。 The museum is surrounded by the tea plantation. It’s pity that the tea leaves were not fresh green because I visited in February. まわりは茶畑です。２月に訪問したので、鮮やかな緑ではなくて残念。 At the third floor of the museum,  tea cultures in the world  are exhibited. The museum is beside the Ohi River. In the Edo period (1603 ～ 1868), there was no bridge at the river because of the strategic reason . Carriers helped people to cross the river.   They carried travelars on their shoulder, or they shouldered a palanquin.  There is a palanquin which you can get on and take photos. Four carriers shoulder you. The service suspended while the water level was high, therefore many travelers stayed at Shimada on such an occasion.
