Fun of Good Old Japanese - 江戸・明治に学ぶ　楽しむ生き方

The huge museum is in Arita Town of Kyushu Island, which is one of the four main islands of Japan. We can see abundant ceramics for free (I visited in 2022). Arita is famous for the production of ceramics. During the invasion to Korea (1592-1598), the warlords took Korea n potters to their territories in Japan. It caused ceramic production; the story is written in the history textbooks for middle school students. It was a really shameful act. Korean potters who could use a wheel initiated Arita ware. Yoshinogari is one of the most famous ruins in Japan. It was revealed during construction of an industrial park. It’s ruins in the Yayoi period (around two thousand years ago), when the rice farming transferred to Japan . People started fighting over rice fields and small countries emerged; some countries dispatched an envoy to an emperor of China. Yoshinogari is the site of residences of the ruling class . Therefore, it’s out of scope of my blog, but we can understand the long and deep relationship with China and Korea here. 吉野ヶ里は、 日本に稲作が伝わった弥生時代の遺跡 です。 1986 年の工業団地造成に伴い、本格的に発掘され、「邪馬台国か！」と話題になった場所です。 弥生時代からは、水田＝土地を巡って人々の戦い殺し合いが本格化しました。そして、国ができ、中国に使者を送りました。 この遺跡は、支配者階級の住居跡 で、稲作の道具は見つかっていますが、水田は発見されていません。 本ブログのテーマである人々の暮らしではないのですが、ご紹介します。中国や朝鮮との長い関係がよく分かりました。 The huge gate suits to  the national special historic site . The structure of Kitsuki in Oita Prefecture (southern Japan) is very special . There are two plateaus in the town in which there were samurai’s residences and there are also temples. Merchants have lived between two plateaus. Old houses remain and the area is designated as “Preservation Districts for Groups of Traditional Buildings” by the government. The photo above is a view of the southern plateau from the northern one across the merchant area. 別府と大分空港の間にある杵築は、二つの台地の上が武家屋敷と寺町、その間の低地が商人町という独特な地形の城下町 （譜代・松平氏 3 万 2 千石）です。古い家々が残り、重要伝統的建造物群保存地区に指定されています。上の写真は北の台地から商人町の谷を経て、南の台地を見たものです。 There is Kitsuki Castle at the end of the  northern plateau .  Residences of high-class samurai remain there . There was also Kitsuki- han  (local government) school, which is a site of an elementary school now.
